EarthFest 2022 cements Singapore as a sustainability hub

In the bid to showcase Singapore as Asia’s sustainability hub, the annual EarthFest continues its efforts to highlight its main sustainable lifestyle habits: Zero Waste and Veganism in its 2022 edition. The weekend event will be held at City Sprouts between 12-13 November.

“EarthFest has emerged as a movement over the years to show how eco-friendly lifestyles can be effortless and accessible to everyone and bring the community together. The world today needs more sustainable solutions to create lasting change,” says Mayur Singh, President for the Centre for a Responsible Future (CRF), organiser of the annual festival.

With a diverse line-up ranging from nutritional plant-based cooking demos and environmental workshops to a panel discussion on sustainable fashion, visitors will be able to learn more about plant-based lifestyles and their environmental impact at educational outreach booths, and to shop and dine at the sustainable marketplace with notable vendors from the vegan and sustainability scene.

As with previous editions of EarthFest, the fair is expected to attract thousands, and will continue to push for zero-waste by incentivising BYO (bring your own) amongst both vendors and participants. Attendees who forget to BYO can still rent cups and plates from event sponsor Muuse at a nominal rent fee.

Furthermore, vendors will not use single-use plastics at the event, all materials utilised are fully sustainable, and all disposables and waste will be composted at the end of it by Ecosami, EarthFest’s official composting partner, in line with its zero-waste theme.

“The plant-based diet can contribute significantly to reduce the environmental footprint of the food system. We hope to make the world a better place while serving great-tasting and nutritious food.” remarks Mr Nikhil Chand, Managing Director of Nestlé Singapore, which is showcasing Harvest Gourmet, its plant-based product range, at EarthFest.

According to another vendor, Li Ting Low, founder of local handcrafted vegan bar soap label, My Naked Bar: “Living a less waste lifestyle can be simple, fun, and healthier for our skin. That is why we engage the community to contribute clean milk cartons so that every of our bars can be packaged in upcycled milk carton gift boxes to send out a message for our planet. Together, we can save a better planet for our children and future generations.”
