FOR OUR HEALTH

Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiovascular disease (namely heart attacks and strokes) are the number 1 cause of adult death in Singapore and the developed world.  According to scientific studies a plant-based diet can lower the risk of CVS disease by 50% or more. Excess sodium, sugar, fat and animal protein (which are widely present in the omnivore diet) promote the build-up of plaque in the arteries, this can lead to a heart attack or stroke. The good news is that with the right dietary choices you can not only stop this process but can even reverse clogged arteries.

Plant-based diets benefit heart health because they’re rich in fibre and phytonutrients - such as:

  • Vitamins,

  • anti-oxidants,

  • carotenoids,

  • minerals and lycopene.

On the other hand just a 50g portion a day of processed meat (one hot dog, ham, sausage, etc.) is associated with up to 44 percent increase in heart disease risk. What more taking meat / processed food with each meal?
